  • But you will need to be prepared to navigate the weekend's adjusted work hours
  • When are the biggest DIY and gardening brands going to be open over Easter?

As well as family gatherings and children's activities, the long Easter bank holiday weekend can be a great time for home or garden improvements.

The four-day break offers the perfect chance to prepare for the emergence of spring, or really get your teeth into a big DIY project.

But if you can only prepare for this once the bank holiday weekend has begun, you will need to be prepared to navigate the weekend's adjusted opening hours imposed on big shops.

Stores like B&Q, Dobbies Garden Centres and Homebase will all be impacted this weekend.

So, when are all the biggest DIY and gardening brands going to be open over Easter? Find out below.

B&Q

B&Q will be an option for people with either DIY or gardening plans this weekend.

They will generally be open from the usual 7am to 8pm on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

However, they will be closed on Easter Sunday due to trading laws impacting shops over 280 square metres - except in Scotland.

Opening times on the other three days may slightly vary but you can check your local outlet's Easter hours on the B&Q store finder.

Screwfix

Like B&Q, Screwfix will be open from 7am to 8pm on both bank holidays - Good Friday and Easter Monday.

However, they will be operating reduced hours on the Saturday - only opening from 7am to 6pm.

Screwfix outlets will be closed across the UK on Easter Sunday, apart from in Scotland, where they are open from 9am to 4pm.

You can check the hours for your nearest Screwfix using their online store finder.

Wickes

Wickes now has over 230 stores across the UK, all of which are set to be open for the majority of the long Easter weekend.

On Good Friday and Easter Monday stores are due to open from 7am to 8pm, while on Saturday their times will vary - opening at 7am and closing at either 6pm or 7pm.

You can check which is the case for your local Wickes using their store locator.

However, they will be closed on Easter Sunday in England and Wales, while in Scotland they are due to open from 9am to 6pm.

Toolstation

Toolstation has said that their stores will be open over reduced hours across the bank holiday weekend.

This will mean outlets opening from 8am to 5pm, rather than 7am to 8pm, on both Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Saturday hours are set to be 7am to 6pm, while Toolstations will be closed for all of Easter Sunday.

Use the Toolstation store locator to confirm your nearest store's opening times.

Homebase

Homebase have said opening times may vary over the Easter period. You can check your nearest one's hours on the Homebase store locator.

However, they have indicated that shops should be open on Good Friday and Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm, and from 8am to 7pm on Saturday.

Homebase outlets will be closed in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Easter Sunday, but will be open as usual in Scotland.

Dobbies Garden Centres

Dobbies Graden Centres' 75-plus stores across the UK are more that are set to be impacted over  Easter.

While on Friday, Saturday and Monday, the centres are set to be open from 9am to 6pm, those in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are scheduled to close on Sunday.

Scottish stores are due to be open from 9am to 6pm all weekend.

Check your local Dobbies using their store locator.

Notcutts

Notcutts has 19 garden centres across England, all due to close for Easter Sunday.

For the rest of the bank holiday weekend, stores are scheduled to be open from 9am to 5pm.

If you have one local, you can double-check before you go on the Notcutts website.

Squire's

All 16 of Squires' garden centres across southeast England are also set to close for Easter Sunday.

For the rest of the weekend, they will be open from 9am to 6pm.

While all the big brands on this list are closing their stores on Easter Sunday, other small, independent shops are legally allowed to trade then.

So, if you are caught short short on whatever project it may be that day, it is worth checking your local independent businesses to see if they are open.
